Pre-Travel Medical Consultation: What you need to know

Our dedicated travel medical specialists offer pre-travel medical consultations tailored to your individual travel plan.  During our pre-travel medical consultation we will:

  • Assess your individual risk
  • Identify any health concerns
  • Provide advice to mitigate risk
  • Answer your questions
  • Administer vaccinations and medication (if necessary)

The most common vaccinations and medicines, especially for Africa, Asia, and South America, include malaria prophylaxis and Yellow fever vaccinations.

Please note: Consultations and prescriptions for persons not present can ONLY be carried out for children up to 12 years of age.

Price

To provide you with adequate advice, our typical pre-travel medical consultation lasts an average of 25 minutes per person. For this, we charge a fee of 90 CHF per person.

If the appointment lasts significantly shorter or longer than average, the fee varies from CHF 70 (short) to CHF 120 (long), depending on the length of the consultation.

Please note: Consultations and prescriptions for persons not present can ONLY be carried out for children below the age of 12.

Groups
For groups, the total consultation time is divided among the group members. The minimum fee per group member is CHF 70.

Families
We enjoy doing consultations for families and understand that children's needs are different from their parents. That is why we offer a children's flat fee of 35 CHF for reviewing a child's vaccination book and advice, which takes place as part of a family travel consultation appointment.

Additional costs
In addition to the consultation fee, we may recommend that you get vaccinated or take a medication before or during your trip. If vaccination is necessary, a one-time injection fee of 10 CHF per person will be added to the bill for your visit.

Preparing for your appointment

Note about group size:

The appointment time varies based on group size (the larger the group, the longer the appointment will be).  If you book the wrong appointment type for your group (ie if you are a family of four and book an appointment for a single person) then we will have to reschedule your appointment.

When to book:

We recommend booking your consultation 6-8 weeks before your planned travel.

What to bring:

  • Your Swiss health insurance card,
  • travel details,
  • allergy and/or medication list
  • and all of your vaccination booklets.

New: Online Consultation

We now offer Online Consultations by video as an alternative to an in-person appointment. The content and quality are equivalent to a consultation at the clinic. The video connection is provided through our partner Arzt-direkt in a secure, GDPR-compliant online environment. More information on data protection is available here.

Requirements:

  • Laptop or computer with camera and functioning microphone
  • Basic proficiency in using a laptop or computer
  • The ability to either send your vaccination book in advice by email or to share it during the video session.

Important information:

  • A limited number of appointments are currently available.
  • At present, only individual consultations can be booked (groups and family consultations will follow).
  • Not suitable if your departure is the following day, as same-day vaccination appointments are generally not possible.
  • The price of the online consultation is the same as for an in-person consultation.
