The COVID-19 Vaccine
Opening hours
Covid 19 vaccinations are currently carried out on Wednesdays from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm.
Vaccination recommendation
For the fall/winter of 2023, the EKIF (Federal Commission for Immunization Questions) has issued a new vaccination recommendation, valid from October 2, 2023:
Almost all individuals have already come into contact with coronavirus and their immune systems have dealt with the virus accordingly. The current virus variants tend to cause mild courses of disease in persons without risk factors. With increased indoor contact, coronavirus may circulate more widely and increase the likelihood of contracting covid-19.
Who is recommended to be vaccinated?
Covid 19 vaccination is recommended in the fall/winter for all at-risk individuals 16 years of age and older. Particularly at risk individuals have an increased risk of severe disease progression and they are most likely to experience a decline in immune protection. Vaccination improves protection against severe disease and its complications for several months.
Which individuals are considered most at risk?
The complete list can be found here.
What about the rest of the population?
All persons under age 65 with no risk factors are not recommended for Covid 19 vaccination in the fall/winter. For them, vaccination provides low and short-term protection against infections with mild disease.
So, health professionals and caregivers are also not recommended to be vaccinated. However, they can be vaccinated if, after individual consideration and decision, they wish to somewhat reduce the risk of infection with mild disease.
Costs
Recommended vaccinations are free of charge and covered by mandatory health care insurance.
Non-recommended Covid vaccinations (e.g. for travel purposes due to entry regulations in other countries) can be performed on a self-pay basis (65 CHF per vaccination, payable locally) if medically justifiable.
